The Chariot, card seven. Two sphinxes adorn this card, one black and one white, pull the rider forward, without needing direction. Stars crown him, city walls and cascading waterfalls recede behind him flank him as he rides aways. Waite was careful to note what this triumph actually is: conquest of the mind, of logic, of the external world. He hold a world captive. He carries his scepter close to him, added authority to his journey.
